Totally agree with the need to enjoy an exercise to keep doing it!
I've made an effort to work barbell squats into my training, but just don't want to do them. Instead, I have bodyweight and goblet squats, weighted lunges and step-ups that I regularly train. On the other hand, I enjoy deadlifts and have been doing them for about 40 years now.
Oh man, I'm vibing with you right now— You gotta love what you do in the gym, because if you're not enjoying the ride, then what's the point, right?
Barbell squats ain't for everyone, and that's totally cool! Just because they're a staple in many routines doesn't mean they have to be in yours. It sounds like you’ve found a killer alternative set of exercises that still target those powerhouses of the lower body. Goblet squats, weighted lunges, and step-ups? Those are some GNARLY moves right there!
And 40 years of deadlifts? DUDE!
That's SERIOUSLY AWESOME!
Thanks for being a part of my little corner of the interwebs, bruh, I really mean it!
Nice! Great to see a lady on the cover image too. 😉 Completely agree about your enjoyment level of an exercise having an impact. I freaking love OH press and deadlift (both w/ barbell), but always “struggle” with my love for back/barbell squats. Give me a goblet or front squat and I’m delighted! Having said that, I’m just starting to get back into barbell squatting again as it’s an exercise that I would love to love more. Let’s see!
You know, back in the day, I was strongly influenced by the philosophies of MC Hammer, and man, did he preach it right - “U Can’t Touch This!” HAHAHAA
There's something special about finding that exercise groove that resonates with YOU. It's not about what everyone else is doing, it's about what makes YOU feel like a rockstar in the gym!
Hats off to you for loving that OH press and rocking the deadlift! That’s some solid power moves right there. And HELL YES, goblet squats and front squats are some fine moves that not only challenge the quads but also give the core a run for its money.
But I get you on the barbell squats. They're like that classic track that everyone loves, but sometimes it just doesn’t hit the same way for you. Kudos for diving back into the barbell squatting world and trying to find that spark! Sometimes it’s about finding the right rhythm and technique, and sometimes it’s about just building that mental bond with the move.
Whatever the outcome, keep rocking your personal favorites and experimenting with the ones you want to connect with more. The gym's your stage, and you’re THE ONE SHREDDING HAHAHA

Excellent point!!
I was doing 3 months deadlifts and squats with almost no weight in the barbell because I had everywhere pains...
These movements demand solid base!!!
