How does UFC fighters cut so much weight so fast?
Fighters at a specific weight category, let’s say 155lbs, are only 155lbs for a handful of minutes— once they rehydrate they can regain LUDICROUS amounts of weight, up to 40lbs in extreme cases.
They do so using a technique called WATER LOADING.
They ramp up their water intake to 9-12lts a day, the body identifies that there is no reason whatsoever to hold on to any water because the motherfucker is shugging down gallons of water like a crazy person, and starts to recycle it crazy fast.
After shugging insane craploads of water for a couple of days, you then cut all the water intake out and proceed to start the dehydration process, contrary to popular belief you don't need to go insane and ride a dyno bike max-effort inside a sauna and switch back and forth to cold plunges and shit, you just need to heat up the body by introducing proper insulation AKA a lot of clothing, and you do easy pace cardio until you're dehydrated enough to hit your target weight.
Yeah, it's that simple.
Here's the thing, the more muscular you are the more water you're able to hold on to, think with me carboHYDRATE, each gram of carbs binds to 3 grams of water, and muscles hold on to carbs in the form of glycogen hence insanely muscular individuals like the guys in the pic can drop upwards of 30lbs in a day and fight way smaller opponents, it's the reason that guys like Joe Rogan are always advocating for implementing something like a Hydration test pre-fight, ’cause in a way, it’s sanctioned cheating.
So when you see a 155lbs fight, they’re not actually 155lbs dudes— each dude can be anywhere from 10-40lbs heavier at the fight.
Dehydrating yourself is that simple, add in a strong diuretic that isn’t going to get you in trouble with USADA, like caffeine, and you're able to shed bucketloads of water fairly quickly.
This is dangerous since you'll not only piss and excrete just water out in every way possible but also nutrients, especially electrolytes, so don't try this shit just for fun, you'll potentially kill yourself.
Don't forget that all the weight comes back the second you rehydrate, so this is not effective in losing weight in the long term, nor in losing fat.
KETO DIETS ARE THE EXACT SAME WAY— you’re getting rid of carbs and water, that’s why you’ll lose significant amounts of body weight very fast in the first couple of months, you didn’t necessarily lose an ounce of fat, although the weight on the scale went down 20 lbs after you started keto.
So stay safe people, and don't be stupid!
Big KISS,
THE POTATO MAN
